By Firefighter Mike Cline
December 18, 2018

At ~4:50 PM, Westmorland 911 dispatched Station 20 (Murrysville VFC), for an Automatic Fire Alarm at Murrysville Medic One. Station 20 responded with Truck 20 (5 firefighters including Captain 20 and Lieutenant 20), with Chief 20 going directly to the scene. Westmorland 911 also dispatched the following companies to assist Station 20: Station 22 (Export VFD), Station 64 (White Valley VFD), Station 78 (Sardis VFD), and Station 236 (Holiday Park VFD). Truck 20 was first on scene, and its crew positioned the unit in case the ladder and aerial platform needed to be deployed. Chief 20 arrived on scene and took command of the incident; emplacing Engine 78 at the nearest hydrant, and placing Engines 22-1 and Engine 64 in standby position at the front of the building. Murrysville Medic One provided medical support with personnel at their station. Interior search teams from Truck 20 entered the building, and performed a visual and thermal imagery search of the interior with no fire or smoke found. With no fire found, Chief 20 cancelled Truck 236. After an extensive secondary search was conducted by additional interior teams from the other responding units, it was determined that a voltage surge had activated the fire alarm. Chief 20 declared the building safe for reentry, and returned control of the building to Medic One. Chief 20 released all responding fire units for return to service and station.

Units: Truck 20
