At ~11:21 AM, Westmorland 911 dispatched Station 20 (Murrysville VFC) for a strong odor of natural gas at the Murrysville Shop 'n Save with an evacuation in progress for The Village of Murrysville Plaza. Station 20 responded with Truck 20 (3 firefighters), with Chief 20 and Lieutenant 20 going directly to the scene. Westmorland 911 dispatched the following stations to assist Station 20: Station 64, Station 78, Station 22 and Station 610. Upon the arrival of Truck 20, there the evacuation was still in progress. Chief 20 took command of the scene upon arrival, and requested Vent 3 to the scene. The gas leak was found and isolated at the meter. Multiple firefighter crews gained entry into multiple businesses with the help of the property management company and the keys in the Knox Box, and used gas meters to check Shop 'n Save and adjacent businesses for explosive gas. Minor readings were found on the second floor of the plaza, and the building was ventilated naturally of all explosive gas. Other crews assisted the Murrysville Police to control traffic access into/around the plaza. Peoples Gas arrived and red tagged the meters. The scene was handed over to Peoples Gas and Ferri Land Company to re-establish gas service to the multiple businesses. Chief 20 returned all units to service and station. |
