Today, five officers of Station 20 completed the Fire Officer I IFSAC/Proboard national certification class. This class was offered through Bucks County Community College and was sponsored by Murrysville Volunteer Fire Company. The instructor was Randy Isenberg, who is an instructor for Bucks County Community College as well as Fire Marshal for the Altoona Fire Department. The class was 40 hours in length. The course provided the officers with a basic knowledge of management principles in a fire/rescue organization. Topics of discussion included management style, communication modes, leadership, organizational structure, pre-planning, health and safety, and legal aspects for a fire officer. The officers had to complete five written practical skills as well as successfully pass a written examination. The Station 20 officers will use this class to move on to Fire Officer II later in the Spring. Congratulations to all 14 firefighters that took the class and good luck with your future certifications!
